What is Specialist Neuro-Physiotherapy?

Village Physiotherapy have a team of expert Physiotherapists who provide specialist physiotherapy treatment and rehabilitation for people suffering from Neurological Conditions which affect their Central Nervous System (CNS).

Conditions that we treat include: Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Head Injuries, Parkinson’s Disease, Spinal Injuries and other less well known conditions such as Peripheral Neuropathy and Cerebellar Degeneration.

Movement disorders that are common in patients with neurological conditions can include muscle weakness, muscle tightness or spasm, lack of coordination and uncontrolled shaking (tremor). Altered sensation and problems with speech and swallowing may also be present.

What happens during an appointment?

Our Neuro-physiotherapist will assess your unique set of symptoms and problems that you face in your everyday life. We will use our expert knowledge and specialist experience to plan a treatment program with you. Working together as a team you can identify achievable goals for the future, which may range from dressing independently to driving or returning to sport.

Treatment will be specific and unique to you, depending on your symptoms, condition and what you have identified as your goals. It may involve ‘hands on’ therapy to assist with correcting movement patterns and releasing tight tissue as well as activity based treatment to increase strength, improve balance and enhance postural awareness and control. Our team make things functional to help you get on with living.

The main aims of treatment are to promote independence and improve function with the primary goal of enjoying life more.

Exercise Rehabilitation

Whatever your symptoms, we are all also expert in exercise rehabilitation and have a fully equipped gym and rehab area to really get you going. It doesn’t matter if you have a long standing condition or you have just been recently diagnosed with a neurological disorder, we can tailor our services to your needs whether it be a one-off advice session, a monthly rehab review or an intensive treatment program.
